Preventing the perception trap and identifying assumptions is a critical part of being an analyst. While there are a plethora of books available that describe techniques and strategies one can employ to avoid the pitfalls, the analyst herself (or himself) must also maintain an open mind. Mindsets are beliefs about yourself and your most basic qualities. An analyst with an open mind or “growth mindset” believes ones knowledge, skills and abilities are not fixed attributes carved in stone – but are instead traits you can cultivate throughout your life.
